Ireland, St. Patrick’s and MUCH more :)

So as all of you know I went to discover the wonderful country of Ireland this past weekend! I actually just got back an hour ago, took a much needed shower, started laundry and am now in bed trying to write this with the wee little 4 hours of sleep I have gotten today. Oh my where to start!? (I started writing this long one on Tuesday when I got back but got caught up by the lack of sleep, school and Amber being here)

Amber arrived safe and sound in the city of love Friday morning. I met her at the train station and we came back to my place to chillax for an hour or so before we headed to lunch. She was in awe of the little bit of Paris she got to see on her way walking to my dorm and on the train to and from the airport. This was going to be the adventures of Amber and Kelsey πŸ™‚ I took her to lunch at this wonderful pizza place, she fell in love, and then we headed to the airport to board for IRELAND!

Skipping to the next exciting part is the arrival in Dublin. All I could see was green and man was I happy! We made our way to the hostel to check in and start our long weekend. Little did we know that would consist of sleeping in a room with 20 freaking people, a first I must say and probably the last as well lol, 4 nights in a room with 18 other girls I am sure you can imagine my exhaustion haha. It was quite the interesting experience. I can now say I have stayed in a hostel, check that off the list! However, we shared the bathroom with the whole floor which had to have been at least 80 people + and I do not normally do this but it was so gross I showered as little as possible. If you know me at all I absolutely love being clean and would even say it’s to the point of me being semi germaphobic which I must add has tremendously changed being here in Paris. Makes me appreciate the little things in life! All in all the room was mildly okay, the girls were all apart of the tour we were on so other than some people getting back later than others and getting up earlier than others everyone was really respectful. Now the people who were staying down the hall from us that is a whole different story! The quietest time in the hostel each night was around 6am and thank goodness for sleeping pills, hallelujah!

Our first night there we went to dinner and relaxed before our fun filled weekend. Saturday we started off with a walking tour of Ireland. It was wonderful! Our tour guide was so intelligent and I am very thankful to now know so much more about the beautiful country and the city of Dublin. Here is a little preview of the tour.

And the seats that fold down, how AWESOME

After our tour we were free for the rest of the day because some people were still arriving. We met up Saturday night with the whole tour group and had a nice meal, big thanks to WSA (Weekend Student Adventures). Later on we went to enjoy some Irish dancing, could not get much more Irish than that! It honestly is everything you imagine and SO much more. I wish I could share a video or two with you but hopefully all of you are friends with me on Facebook so you can watch the ones I uploaded as for it will not work on here or I have not figured out how to yet!

Sunday arrived and we were off to the coast of Ireland. Let me just say this was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I wish these photos were going to do the mere justice of what it was like to be there in person.

We then topped off the day with a visit to the Guinness Brewery, yes the original!

P.S. Guinness tastes a LOT better in Ireland

Sunday came and went, now it was time for the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. I will say if you ever go to Ireland and throw out Happy St. Patty’s Day or just Patty’s Day that is a big no no lol. There were supposed to be an expected 1 million people in Dublin for the St. Paddy’s Day parade and the celebration, I will say I believe this was doubled. We started the day with the parade, where all those million(s) gathered so calling it crazy was an understatement. Then finished the day with walking around just admiring the chaos. Here are some pics!

Let’s do this!

and again

The most interesting part of that whole day besides the craziness, had to be the fact that we saw more teenagers (13-16 if not younger) drunk and acting a fool then we did people our age (20+). Now do not get me wrong I know the drinking age in Europe is quite different then America and yes I will admit at that age I threw a few back as well (sorry mom, dad, grandma and grandpa) but this was just beyond that! We watched little kids (13-16) fight, drama between girls, throwing up and more it was CRAZY! lol To put into perspective how crazy St. Paddy’s Day was in Dublin it was to the point that walking around on Monday my shoes were sticking to the ground because of all of the alcohol, never have I experienced such a thing ha. Quite the experience too!

After the weekend wrapped up that night I was ready to get back to Paris and be in my own private room again with a nice, lovely shower! The “fun” did not end though. We discovered when we were trying to check Amber in online for our flight the following morning at 6AM that welp her flight was never even schedule. Phew good thing I have done some research on travel in Europe because soon after we were booking her for quite the adventure back to Paris. Seeing as how flying with me back that morning would have cost 250euros which is just outrageous, we booked her a ferry ride to England and then a train ride to London. She then hung in London for a few hours and hopped on an overnight bus to Paris and arrived here Wednesday morning. This may have not been ideal but on the plus side she got to see another country!

Tuesday night while she was making her way to Paris, I caught up on some homework and got some much needed rest. Wednesday I had class all day but then we met up at the Louvre. Look who we found there!

We then stopped off for an up close and personal view of the one and only…

We brought Kansas to Paris

Friday I had class in the morning but after we met up and went out for a bit then came back and napped for a good 2 hours. Amber really wanted to see a Burlesque show so she did some research and found this place so we thought we would give it a try! Had a lovely dinner at an organic restaurant, yes I love organic even in Paris. We were then in for a treat when we arrived at this lovely little cottage. No this was not the usual Burlesque that you are all thinking of. A little room where people lined the walls and listened to French singers. It was quite fun and interesting for an hour or so but we could not understand anything so we paid our dues and called it a night. It was actually a lovely time and a true French experience which is why I am here after all πŸ™‚

Amber left Saturday morning, she was ready to get back to America but I know she enjoyed her time here as did I! I spent the rest of my weekend relaxing, for the most part, cleaning, grocery shopping, watching movies and even got my hair done. I am brunette again! Found a lovely little English speaking salon and actually met some wonderful people there. Even sipped on some champagne! For anyone looking in Paris for an English speaking place and more knowledge about hair than you can fathom, Style Pixie Salon is your place! The team is wonderful and I am sure you will be exchanging numbers and getting emails with everyone by the time you are finished. It was truly a wonderful little outing and definitely made any “treat” for oneself that much more, perfect!

Healthy hair!

Well this was a long one, hope you made it to the end and if you did, thank you again! All of the support and love continues to inspire me. Speaking of inspiring I get asked a lot what I want to do in the future and honestly this explains it all.

Inspire

Hoping to bring light and love to so many, this is just my one way of doing that. Love to you all more than you know. Happy, happy day πŸ™‚

Love, Life, Live!

Well well well I have not forgotten about you! Actually truth is I have really been focusing on my studies and everyday this week I have had intentions of updating you and writing a blog but I have been so busy! This week has been a crazy one and the next one is going to be as well. I guess it is a good thing that I spent my Spring Break mostly relaxing πŸ™‚

Lets see where did I leave off. I believe I was on Spring Break and it was almost the weekend, I had just reached over 500 views in just 2 months which is FANtastic, get it fan!? I am now almost to 600 and all I can say is thank you thank you thank you! It is so wonderful to have such great support and I actually really enjoy writing these blogs! Back to Spring Break though. The weekend before I went back to school I spent doing some sight seeing. Went to the Fashion Week with a couple girls here which was located near the Louvre. It was the first time I had seen the Louvre and let me just say oh em gee! That place is HUGE. It was a beautiful day and I actually caught a couple sunset pictures which made me think of Kansas, we have the best sunsets, sigh πŸ™‚

A picture of the Louvre, what I could get at least

20140313-175500.jpg

I had a good time exploring but it was nice to get back to classes last week. My weeks mostly consist of class and studying, making dinner (yes I do that now) and rejuvenating as much as possible. I also started running a couple times a week, well what I call running haha I am by no means a good runner. Can you really ever be?? I must say it is not too fun but it does make me feel better! lol

This past weekend we made an ERASMUS day trip to Champagne!! Champagne is just a region so we visited a couple cities but mostly Reims, France. That was so much fun. It was wonderful to get out of Paris for a little bit and see some countryside. I never knew how much of a “country” girl I was until I started living in one of the most populated cities in the world. The day consisted of visiting a castle, a Basilica, Notre Dame and then a vineyard! I am going to let the pictures do the explaining…. πŸ™‚

What a day! I cannot wait to visit Italy with my mom and some more vineyards, eeeeek!

This week was supposed to be one of my easier weeks, I only had 4 of my classes but it was quite busy! I have been working with the organization from one of my classes, Managing People. We made the company Twovox which is a company that is helping connect International students and with native language students all over the world to help in the exchange of language skills! Not only does this aid in meeting foreign students and people but it also can help if you want to learn another language. We are so excited about our organization and me being International in France this is definitely something even I would use, of course that is why I am so involved and passionate about it. Most of you have probably already seen all of my Facebook posts πŸ˜‰ We will be developing an application online as well as a website so I am ecstatic to be able to share with all of you soon. Until then please “like” us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or even Twitter! If its any justification I am actually the Manager of the Public Relations department which handles all social media, communication and working with other departments as well as events. This has been a wonderful opportunity for me since my degree is in Management and it has helped me learn so much. I have met some great people, French and International in our group and I look forward to continuing on this adventure. More to come! Here are a couple pictures from our Breakfast event we held this morning.

Such a success, happy happy! We are doing big things here TWOVOX

Twister at its finest hahaha

Anywho, again I am sorry it has been 2 weeks since I have written. I look forward to doing some laundry, not really though, and getting some much needed sleep tonight before my big weekend! Amber will be here tomorrow and we are off to IRELAND for St. Patrick’s Day. I am so excited! There will most definitely be an update when I get back so stay tuned…

All my love

Spring Break, Paris style

Well fellow bloggers or blog readers it has been quite a lovely week I must say! Had my first Spring Break in Paris, minus the “spring” weather but needless to say I have enjoyed well.. being lazy πŸ™‚ I have had quite the spark of interest in watching all my favorite childhood movies again that I have not seen in years. So far I have watched The Little Mermaid (1 and 2), Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and now working on the Lion King 2. Brings back such wonderful memories πŸ™‚ One thing I thought that was rather cool is the amount of French words that were spoken in Beauty and the Beast and even the Little Mermaid. Who would have ever thought?! As a little kid I paid no mind, but now that I am in Paris and studying French I tend to notice things like that! Beauty and the Beast is a French specialty so that came to no surprise after I had discovered that. When it comes to movies I love all of them, except for the scary movies. I have always firmly believed why must I watch those movies in seeking the thrill and then be afraid afterwards and all throughout life? Just never was my fancy! But look at me watching all of the “fairy tale” movies, a girl can dream right!? πŸ™‚

Besides watching movies I have been quite productive. Did all my laundry, have cooked almost everyday, and even cleaned my dorm room! As well as some homework everyday. I have been trying to keep up on my Managing People project. Running a business, or building, is no easy task needless to say! Right now we are trying to finish our Business Plan and then make Presentations and start accumulating meetings with sponsors for the upcoming weeks. It is quite amazing though, we have prospects that think we will succeed in this project far beyond just the class. Who knows, maybe this will be the next hot “app”. I told you I have dreams right! It is funny my French classmates tell me I am so “American” with my big dreams and all πŸ™‚ haha That is after all why I am here HELLO!!

After meeting up with a girl in my group today at OpΓ©ra she showed me around. I have officially fell in love with Paris again! OpΓ©ra has got to be one of my favorite parts of Paris so far. There were stores that lined the streets, department stores like you wouldn’t believe! I do not even care to shop and this girl was in heaven. She also took me to a famous macaroon shop in Paris called LadurΓ©e. I must say I have never been a huge fan of macaroons but that just so happened to go down in history today, I LOVE THEM! See πŸ™‚

laduree

I am going back to OpΓ©ra tomorrow with Ariana so there will definitely be more pics to come! Hope everyone is having a great week. Will catch up with you this weekend.

One Month Down

The weeks are beginning to fly by. I am officially on Spring Break this whole week! Rather odd seeing as how I just started classes 3 weeks ago but then again, who’s complaining?! The week was rather long, had 18 hours of classes so most of the time spent outside of class was just spent resting. I actually was a little sick last weekend, head cold stuff going on and that happened to carry through the week as well. Started taking some medicine and actually feel much better now. Been trying to get a head start on a lot of the projects I have to do this semester. I am in 2 Masters classes (Managing People and Entrepreneurial Marketing) so compared to back home they are quite a bit different then what I am used to. The plus side is that I am learning so much here just by all of the changes and differences!

A couple of my American friends were in Paris for the weekend from Germany. Steph lives in Germany and Hanna is visiting her for 2 weeks so they decided to make a trip to Paris! We met up at Moulin Rouge yesterday and walked around, ate lunch, chatted, laughed and then walked to La Seine River and saw the mini Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower of course! I enjoyed their company, it was nice having people from back home in EUROPE of all places πŸ™‚ We did not end up meeting up last night because travel time sometimes is too much on metro, especially because it stops after Midnight but maybe during the break I will get the chance to go visit them!

As far as today goes I think Persia and I will head to China Town, been craving my Chinese food, maybe go shopping a little bit and then I will probably top the night off with a movie. Now the rest of the week has quite the potential! Just have to figure out what I would like to do on my time off πŸ™‚ I contemplated coming home almost everyday for the past week but that is such a long trip and would be pretty tiring I am sure. Most likely I will spend some time sight seeing and maybe even head somewhere for a couple days! This week is also Fashion Week in Paris so you know I have to go check that out!

A few fun “FACTS” about Paris, I will keep updating in time when I discover more!
*Drinks are ordered when food is ordered and served with the food or slightly before
*Whipped cream is AMAZING here, also known as Chantilly
*Pizza is always served with chili oil
*You have to cut your own pizza
*Always use fork and knife with pizza, eating with hands is so “American” ha
*American music is everywhere, on the metro, in clubs, restaurants, shops, etc.
*Mac computers are very popular, all the French kids in class have them
*French love Italian food, there are restaurants everywhere
*Everyone eats dessert with every meal, I am not kidding people
*Mushrooms are in everything, I am in heaven πŸ™‚
*Always pour your own drinks
*Sometimes you will wait 30 minutes after you are done eating to receive your check, it is not looked down upon if you get up and go over to the waiter to pay

Hope you enjoyed those just as much as I do πŸ™‚

Talk to you soon,
Kels

Time Goes By

Time seems to be getting away from me now that classes have started up full-force. I had all of my classes last week so I was a busy bee to say the least! My schedule pretty much rocks though because I have managed to get Mondays and every other Friday off of school, whoop whoop! As far as classes go I have the following: International Business Practices, Managing People, Entrepreneurial Marketing, International Contract Negotiation, French Civilization and French language class. Each of these are worth 4 credits (in France) and only a mere 2 back home at Wichita State. Which I might add makes no sense because these classes are almost twice as hard! All in all they started off good. The classes here are set up differently then they are in the US, from what I have experienced. A lot of their work here is done in groups and off of notes given by the teacher, whereas back home notes are relayed from a textbook and then you may have 1 project in a group but the rest is individual work. Seeing how my degree is Management I think this will indeed be a good thing to learn while I am here!

In my Managing People class we are split into 2 groups, about 20 people in each group. We are to basically make up a company and manage it for the next 3 months. We have a CEO, Asst. CEO and then 4 managers. I just so happen to be 1 of the managers and the only International student who is one! No pressure right?! I am actually in charge of managing the Public Relations department of our group so wish me luck! I look forward to sharing more information about our “company” later on so you all can maybe start checking up on that as well πŸ™‚ In my Entrepreneurial Marketing class we are to choose a company we want to Market for the next 3 months. I must say I have not gotten into any of these kinds of classes back home so I will sure be learning quite a bit! As far as the other classes go they are a little more on the “easy” side compared to these 2 intense Masters classes but I have my work cut out for me in it all!

Last week I spent in class and then come Thursday a big group of the ERASMUS students went to a club called Mix Club. We definitely do not have clubs like that in Kansas! Pretty much 3 stories, huge dance floor, big DJ stand and all. I again skipped the drinks because this time they were 12 freaking euros instead and I am sorry I just do not give a sh*t to drink anything for that kind of money, unless it is a nice glass of wine or something πŸ˜‰ People here do not normally go out clubbing until Midnight or after so we all gathered in the Cambodge House in CitΓ© U (the house where I live) and pre-gamed. Here are a couple of pictures with my girls and I!

ariana
Adriana and I, she is from Mexico!

persia
Persia and I, she is from Guyana!

I had a great night out with everyone! The girls and I only stayed out until about 1:30 because this girl needs her beauty rest. Most people wait until the metro starts running again in the mornings at around 6am to go home but I just cannot do that!

I spent the weekend resting, did not feel well for some of it (cold and/or allergies) but it was nice to be lazy and hang around my place. I also got some bedding and cleaned a lot so I feel much more comfortable here!

This weekend a couple girls that graduated a year younger than me are coming to Paris to visit! One of the girls lives in Germany and teaches English and her best friend is coming to visit her and Paris is on their list of places to visit so what better timing πŸ™‚ We will probably explore a lot which is a good thing because I have not done too terribly much of that yet. Should be a great time!

Next week I actually have Spring Break, my first one at least so I think I will be booking a trip to Germany for a few days! I also have planned a day trip to Champagne in March as well as my Ireland trip when Amber comes to visit me πŸ™‚ eeeek! A few other prospects as far as vacays go the next couple months I plan on visiting Italy with my mom on my 2nd Spring Break, Amsterdam, Spain, London and some more of France for sure. Hoping to see a lot of Europe during my time here of course.

I pretty much only have 3 months left of school, crazy because I technically just started but also exciting because the next 3 months will be full of adventures and then I will most likely be heading home the first part of June! Such a wonderful experience here so far πŸ™‚ OH OH I also got a French phone so for you iPhone users I can text anytime, unfortunately I was unaware that I cannot call the US or text anyone without an iPhone outside of France. Ehhh oh well! Feeling a little bit more connected now which definitely makes it easier talking to my friends that are here and making plans and also keeping in touch with my parents more.

Well I am off to do some homework, shower and watch a movie so God bless to you all! I will keep you updated later this week.
